Viet Nam to Achieve Moderate Growth as Global Economy Slows

Although Viet Nam will also be adversely affected by the global economic downturn as in many other countries because of the openness of its economy, it may still be able to achieve a moderate level of growth, projected at 4.5% in 2009 and recovering to 6.5% in 2010. Read the news release.

Viet Nam was among the ADB's founding members in 1966, but operations were suspended between 1979 and 1992, before resuming again in 1993. Cumulative assistance includes 83 sovereign loans totaling $5.31 billion, 218 technical assistance projects amounting to about $150.9 million, and 19 grant projects totaling $115.4 million. ADB has also approved nine nonsovereign loans, two political risk guarantees, and one B-loan totaling $300.0 million. It has financed a number of regional technical assistance projects for the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS).
