ADB has an ongoing project in Madhya Pradesh, the Urban Water Supply and Environmental Improvement in Madhya Pradesh (UWSEIMP), which covers four cities: Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior and Jabalpur.

The ADB and UNHABITAT interventions have resulted in the following for the four cities:

  • development of a pro-poor urban water and sanitation governance framework plus a strategy for institutional reforms
  • development of a water demand management strategy
  • improvement of slum environmental sanitation in selected slums in the four cities, done in partnership with four urban local bodies and WaterAid.

Currently in various stages of development are the introduction of human values-based water, sanitation and hygiene education for water utilities and city schools, and a pilot project for introducing a system of piped water network through small scale informal providers in the city of Jabalpur.
