Water for Asian Cities
ADB and UN-HABITAT Consultations
12-17 September 2003, ADB Headquarters
ADB and UN-Habitat undertook the first review of the program six months after its inception. Results indicate that promising progress had been made at country level and through regional initiatives towards creating an enabling environment for investment in water and sanitation.
Both agencies agreed on the need to sustain the efforts to maintain the political will and momentum generated in the developing member countries. This calls for coordinated planning and support by ADB and UN-HABITAT at the Headquarters level, and coordinated action at country level.
From the consultations, ADB and UN-HABITAT identified priority actions for the next 6 months (October 2003- March 2004). The countries interested in joining the program are:
| East and Central Asia |
People's Republic of China, Central Asia region |
| Mekong |
Viet Nam |
| South Asia |
India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan |
| Southeast Asia |
Indonesia, Philippines |

- Regional Capacity Building Workshops
- Multistakeholder Forum
- Donor Coordination Group
The details of these plans are still being finalized.
