Funding Facilities for Water

Water is key to driving down poverty and driving up development. Accessible and safe water supplies improve people’s health and save them time, which they can use to study, or improve their livelihoods. Improved sanitation, on the other hand, protects them from socially and physically degrading surroundings, health risks, and exposure to dangerous environmental conditions.

But ensuring the proper management of water resources and equitable delivery of water supply and sanitation services requires massive financing well beyond the capacity of individual countries and institutions. That is why ADB, with the help of its donors, established two funding facilities designed to promote water reforms and innovations in the Asia-Pacific region.


BASIC INFORMATION

Water Financing Partnership Facility
In December 2006, ADB established this facility to mobilize co-financing and investments to support its Water Financing Program 2006-2010, which focuses on rural, urban, and basin water. By 2008, ADB aims to generate $100 million. These resources will be used to support:

Cooperation Fund for the Water Sector
Established in 2001, this multi-donor facility catalyzed the implementation of ADB's Water Policy. The Fund continues to support a cohesive program of activities focused on:
