TRAINING MATERIALS
Description Papers Presentations
Concept of IWRM
IWRM has become popular as a holistic approach to water management. The materials will explain the concept of IWRM concept and examine how IWRM in Asia is relevant to NARBO activities.

Country/Organizational Reports
Asia's water resources and social perspectives display a variety of characteristics. The materials will feature the similarities and differences among Asian countries, organizations or river basins.
Case studies of Thailand and Japan
In recent years, Thailand has facilitated the establishment of river basin committees and re-structured the government to promote better water management. Japan, which has one of the longest history of IWRM in the world, has developed a practical approach that supports economic growth. The materials will cover the experiences of these countries.
ISO9001 & IWRM
The Brantas River Basin, supervised by Jasa Tirta I, Indonesia, has adopted ISO9001 for the management of water. The materials will introduce the processes and effects of doing so.

Establishment of RBC's in Thailand
Thailand has established several river basin committees. (RBCs). The role and effects of RBCs in Thailand will be discussed in the materials.
Public Participation & Participatory Process
The materials cover the modes of participation, highlighting the adjustments to local communities' traditional systems as well as the legislation of new law as a practical approach.
Concept of Environmental Flow
In the past, the design and operation of large reservoirs have not taken environmental flow into account, resulting to negative impact downstream. Environmental flow is a new concept and needs to be estimated and allocated properly for the maintenance of downstream ecology as well as for fisheries.
  • IWMI Environmental Flows, vol 1, issue 1

Wetland Management
Wetland contributes to the reduction of flood, is a source of water, and preserves marine bio-diversity.

Water Supply System
Water supply is one of the significant functions of water resources management. The key point of water supply is to satisfy not only quantity but also quality. The materials will discuss water supply management in Korea.

Application of IWRM Tools
GWP has developed IWRM ToolBox with many case studies to demonstrate the application of IWRM. The materials will focus on the use and accessing of the ToolBox.

Transboundary
The basin development planning of the Mekong River Commission will be introduced, with focus on information regarding community approach and comprehensive planning.

Basin planning
Basin planning from the scientific and engineering viewpoints is the basis of integrated management. The materials will cover institutional and management measures within the physical and institutional setting of river basins, as well as roles in river basin planning and management.
