Network of Asian River Basin Organizations
NARBO Action Plan

The Network of Asian River Basin Organizations (NARBO) was established to share knowledge and build capacity for Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) in river basins throughout Asia.

NARBO meets annually to

  • Evaluate the accomplishments in the preceding year’s action plan
  • Determine NARBO’s thrusts for the year in the promotion of IWRM
  • Formulate, discuss, and approve an action plan for the coming year

The NARBO Web site will provide news, updates, and reminders about NARBO's activities. The site linked to other related sites will release publications, case studies, electronic newsletters and online data bases JWA
  1. NARBO e-Newsletter
The newsletter covers topics such as good practices, lessons learned, activities, etc. It is issued every 3 months. JWA
  1. Online database

Will contain materials on IWRM practices, lessons learned in river basins in Asia, standards and manuals, recommended formats for river basin organizations (RBOs), annual reports, and more. Materials are shared through website and in CDs.

(Note: This has not yet been implemented; a higher level of support from members is required.)

  1. NARBO Annual Report
Drawing on member organizations’ inputs, the report will summarize NARBO’s activities and will be distributed via website and CDs. JWA will issue the NARBO Annual Report 2006 by May 2007. JWA
  1. Media Relations and NARBO Promotion and Dissemination

NARBO will implement a media strategy to send key messages on IWRM and the work of RBOs, and promotes NARBO’s objectives and activities at suitable events in the region.

ADB will develop the concept media strategy.

  1. NARBO General Meeting
The general meeting is held every two years in accordance with NARBO Charter, and JWA will lead the Secretariat’s work to organize the meeting in consultation with the NARBO Chairperson.

Activities led by NARBO Member Organizations
  1. NARBO members websites

NARBO member organizations will develop and maintain their own websites and post relevant information on their IWRM related activities.

The websites are expected to be ready by December 2006. JWA will survey the situation of each member’s web site.
