Network of Asian River Basin Organizations
NARBO Action Plan

The Network of Asian River Basin Organizations (NARBO) was established to share knowledge and build capacity for Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) in river basins throughout Asia.

NARBO meets annually to

  • Evaluate the accomplishments in the preceding year’s action plan
  • Determine NARBO’s thrusts for the year in the promotion of IWRM
  • Formulate, discuss, and approve an action plan for the coming year

  1. Technical Advisory Committee

NARBO is considering the establishment of a technical advisory committee to support NARBO’s work.

NARBO Secretariat will consider and determine implementation processes by August 2006. 		 
  1. Financial Resources
 The NARBO Charter provides the possibility to convene a financial support group to extend financial support for NARBO activities from other multilateral and bilateral agencies. ADB
  1. Charting IWRM Program in Asia
 This will involve a study on the progress of implementating IWRM in river basins in the region. Supported by ADB and IUCN, this will improve exchange of information and experience, build capacity, present a region-wide perspective on the progress of IWRM, identity further actions needed, and expand NARBO’s activities. ADB, IUCN
  1. Facilitating IWRM Investment Project

NARBO members will promote investments and financing for IWRM in their river basins, and get advice from other members and partners in identifying and preparing river basin projects.

A consultation on priority issues for the NARBO Working Group on Basin Water Financing was held in Manila, Philippines on 31 May 2006. The consultation discussed issues and challenges in financing IWRM in river basins. 		ADB
