The Strategic Partnership between ADB and the Netherlands Water Partnership (NWP) aims to support ADB’s Water Financing Program (WFP) 2006-2010 through parallel-financed grant contributions under the Water Financing Partnership Facility to

  • provide access to water supply and sanitation for 2 million people
  • help ADB develop sanitation project
  • strengthen water utilities
  • improve water resources management in river basins
More About the ADB-NWP Partnership

The idea of a partnership between ADB and NWP grew out of ADB President Haruhiko Kuroda’s visit to the Netherlands on 13 September 2006 to discuss new approaches for sustainable water management in Asia with NWP members. The discussion resulted in a Netherlands Water Sector Business Mission to ADB headquarters in Manila on 5-7 June 2007 that concluded with an agreement by both parties to support ADB’s WFP.

At the International Symposium on Water for a Changing World organized by the UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education on 13-15 June 2007 in Delft, The Netherlands, ADB and NWP signed an Aide Memoire that summarizes the intention to develop a strategic partnership between NWP and ADB, and proposes initial actions.

NWP is an independent body composed of about 160 organizations from government, private sector, academe, and nongovernment organizations that aims to harmonize the the Dutch water sector initiatives abroad and promote Dutch expertise in water worldwide.
