INTRODUCTION
Although challenges remain, progress towards the attainment of the water supply and sanitation MDG targets in South-East Asia has shown great progress in the last decade. This has been paralleled by progress in many aspects of poverty reduction. Achievements have been notable in both rural and urban areas, with these achievements in many cases based on strong community organisation, reforms and improvements in efficiency in government agencies, support from NGOs and the growing involvement of the private sector. The session will highlight these achievements through the voices of the actors involved. The need for integrated approaches that increase choices and improve governance conditions will be stressed.
