Water

The South Asian Water Utilities Network (SAWUN) is a new organization of water utilities in South Asia whose vision is to measurably improve their performance in the delivery of water supply and sanitation services to meet Target 10 of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

Performance Benchmarking
This benchmarking exercise will determine performance levels in core areas of water utility operations. It will involve data collection and analysis, process review, and institutionalization of benchmarking tools for the continuous improvement of participating utilities.

Twinning Arrangements (Water Operators Partnership Program)
Twinning projects between water utilities will be implemented to develop specific technical or managerial capacity. Initial twinning arrangements are proposed with the Singapore Public Utilities Board, Manila Water Company, and Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority.

Training Programs
Training programs will initially focus on nonrevenue water reduction, water demand management and conservation, and asset management. They will include workshops, study tours, and replicable pilot work. More core training areas will be developed over time.

Workshops and Seminars
Seminar-Workshops on financing expansion of water supply systems and results-based strategies for wastewater management will be developed. Participants will be invited from those member utilities that stand to gain most from exposure to these subjects.
