The South East Asian Water Utilities Network (SEAWUN) is a regional association of water supply and sanitation utilities and national water associations created to help its members improve their services. |
MORE ABOUT SEAWUN
|
Water utility managers and utility association officials from Southeast Asia realized the potential benefits of a utilities network for the region, when they participated in ADB’s Regional Technical Assistance on Regulatory Systems and Networking of Water Utilities. These benefits include:
In July 2001, representatives from Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines met in Manila to prepare a framework for the regional network. In August 2002, water utilities and national water utilities from Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Viet Nam met in Hanoi to launch SEAWUN, formulated its charter and organized its constitutional body.
SEAWUN started operating in August 2003 after its secretariat was formally registered in Viet Nam.

| networking | with members, relevant associations and other organizations |
| performance improvement | activities to concentrate on the technical, financial, and institutional fields of water supply utilities operation |
| regional focus | focus on water supply and sanitation services in Southeast Asia |
From 12 utilities in 2002, SEAWUN’s membership has grown to 57 (as of January 2007), including water associations and knowledge partners.

SEAWUN has two major governing bodies—the SEAWUN Governing Board the Executive Committee. The Executive Committee is a subset of the Governing Board.
The Governing Board manages the long-term affairs of the network, including managing the disposal of funds for the Network’s programs and projects. The national water supply association of a member country nominates a representative to the Board.
The Executive Committee is composed of the SEAWUN President who is elected triennially, and the SEAWUN Executive Director. The Executive Committee meets periodically to decide on policy or program concerns. The day to day operations of SEAWUN is managed by the Executive Director.
SEAWUN has recently elected the new members of its Governing Board for 2007-2010.
