Water Sector Network Seminar
WSS Advocacy Packages for ADB Operations Staff

29 September 2004, ADB Headquarters

There are typically just five or six crucial project design aspects that any water supply and sanitation (WSS) project team must get right. It is the same for sector programming. Crucial topics may be

  • Technical
  • Organizational
  • Legal and regulatory
  • Financial
  • Social
  • Environmental

Getting these "pre-conditions" in place may hinge critically on how well ADB missions advocate the positions. ADB's Regional and Sustainable Development Department and Water Sector Network are preparing Advocacy Packages to support ADB officers in the field--short brochures with powerful arguments and illustrations to influence the decision-maker sitting opposite.

Participants to the seminar will consider the crucial dialogue topics for establishing conditions for successful WSS programs and projects. ADB consultant Mr. Klaus Schonfeld will speak on the 13 topics identified so far and the advocacy materials designed to help ADB officers be more influential in the field.
