Why politicians often make the wrong decisions:
Highlights of the International Water Management Course

11 September 2003, ADB Headquarters

ADB's Ian Fox regaled his audience with some of the most amazing water-related trivia, exposed them to some things better kept to himself, and presented a strong argument for converting people in water-short countries to vegetarianism. He also attempted to use the words "paradigm," "critical role," "transaction cost," and "partnerships" in one sentence of no more than 12 words.

Mr. Fox was sponsored by ADB to participate in the inaugural session of the International Water Management Course run by the Swiss Federal Institute for Environmental Science & Technology. The course was held in Lucerne, Switzerland on 5-12 July 2003.

The course dealt with threats to the world's freshwater resources, implications of water scarcity, ecological aspects of aquatic systems, microbial safety of drinking water, improving water use efficiency in agriculture, water trading, and water conflicts.
