13 November 2003, ADB Headquarters

Mr. Ian Walker, KCG Economic Consultants, Auckland will explain the central role of tariffs in sustaining PRC's amazing wastewater management (WWM) program. Come and ask why WWM is taken seriously in PRC. He draws on the recently completed ADB-financed TA 3749-PRC 'Developing Strategies for Wastewater Management: National Guidelines for Urban Wastewater Tariffs and Management Study'.

Ian Walker is a Financial Analyst and Tariff Specialist with extensive work experience in Asia and the Pacific. Ian was Team Leader for the ADB National Water Tariff Policy Study for Vietnam (1994/95) and Team Leader for the ADB National Guidelines in Urban Wastewater Tariffs and Management Study for China, (2002/03). He prepared a background paper on water financing and pricing for Small Island and Pacific States for Kyoto, 2002; and this year was an expert contributor on WWM at the Mayors Asia Pacific Environmental Summit (MAPES) in Hawaii.
