US$650 million in loans from ADB will help Pakistan rebuild vital infrastructure destroyed during last year’s floods. The loans will be used to reconstruct damaged roads, bridges, irrigation systems, and flood and drainage protection works in the worst affected areas.

News: ADB Loan to Boost Water Efficiency in Rural Western PRC
ADB is providing a US$60 million loan to improve water efficiency in three agricultural counties in Qinghai Province in the west of the People’s Republic of China. The loan is part of a US$223.6 million project to build four new main irrigation canals, branch canals, and on-farm works to convert aged small lift irrigation systems to gravity irrigation systems.

Video: ADB’sWorld Water Day 2011 Walking Tour of Estero de Paco, Manila* (Philippines)
ADB celebrated World Water Day 2011 by visiting the Pasig River Environmental Rehabilitation Project in Metro Manila, Philippines. The field visit was selected in line with this year’s World Water Day theme - “Water for Cities: Responding to the Urban Challenge.” The Pasig is Manila’s major river. Estero de Paco is one of its main tributaries. Participants took a walking tour of the Estero (or stream) and witnessed a community, private sector and government partnership in action, restoring water bodies and promoting ecological balance.
