Afghanistan Reconstruction and Recovery

ADB will play a crucial role in the reconstruction of Afghanistan and work with donor members to provide up to $500 million in highly concessional loans and grants over the first 2.5 years of the Afghanistan Interim Administration, according to ADB President Chino.

President Chino was speaking at an International Conference on Afghanistan's reconstruction, held in Tokyo on 21-22 January 2002. A preliminary needs assessment, jointly prepared by ADB, the World Bank and United Nations Development Programme was the basis for discussion during the meeting.
