AppsForAsia – Redesigning Development Through Technology
04 May 2013 (6:00 pm-7:00 pm, Hall 8, Room 1)
Information technology, mobile apps, devices and the Internet are becoming increasingly more accessible and growing at an incredible pace in emerging countries. The rapid advance of cloud computing and white spaces technology is driving change and connecting millions of people to information and services. To empower governments, companies, NGOs, and citizens in the Asia-Pacific region, Microsoft and ADB launched the AppsForAsia initiative to harness the creative power of the region's independent software vendors (ISVs), Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), and application developers to create sustainable software applications to solve social and economic challenges in Asia.
Over the past eight months AppsForAsia has held software contests in Australia, India, Korea, Malaysia, and the Philippines, where hundreds of developers have submitted innovative and impactful solutions. The top three winners from each country will showcase their solutions in a special exhibit at the Annual Meeting, providing them with the opportunity to engage with more than 4,000 attendees.
During the session, a panel of technology and development experts will share their insights on how the latest trends in technology are creating opportunities – empowering people throughout the region to develop mobile solutions, leverage the power of Cloud computing, and use devices to reach more people with smart new applications and services than ever before. The session will also recognize the AppsForAsia winners throughout the program.
Topics to be explored during the interactive panel discussion include:
- Illustrating how the new movements in ICT are central to accelerating national competitiveness, market integration, good governance, inclusive growth and greater participation by the private sector.
- Exploring how the new paradigms on technology are empowering the people of India to improve their lives through access to information and services, greater efficiency and profitability
- Examining the role of International Financial Institutions in financing the infrastructure that enables technology to create impact
