HIGHLIGHTS

Forum on Corporate Governance in Asia

Saturday, 11 May
3:15 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Studies on the causes of the Asian financial crisis in 1997 indicate that weak corporate governance was a major source of economic and financial vulnerabilities. Accordingly, a sound corporate governance system would promote a stable environment for sustainable growth of the private sector.

During the Forum, well-known scholars and practitioners will discuss the following:

  • Corporate governance given rapid institutional change and economic growth in Asia
  • The experience of the People's Republic of China in strengthening corporate governance as an integral part of its economic transition
  • Transparency and disclosure, and corporate governance standards
  • Specific country cases highlighting the complexity of cooperate governance issues, such as impacts of market, political, legal, economic and cultural environment, and the key challenges in improving corporate governance in Asia
  • Roles of shareholders, institutional investors, and the general public
