HARJIT BHATIA has been responsible for GE's global financial restructuring business in the Asia-Pacific region (People's Republic of China, East and Southeast Asia, Japan, India, and Australia) since 2002. Before this, he was responsible for running GE's private equity business in Asia-Pacific as managing director. In 1997 he started a private equity business in Hong Kong, China, for the company, and set up offices there and in Tokyo, Sydney, Delhi, and Mumbai. In 1994 he was one of the first employees of GE Capital in India and built private equity, securitization, and syndication business for GE Capital as managing director (capital markets). From 1991 until joining GE Capital, he started and ran investment banking and corporate finance business for Deutsche Bank in New Delhi. Previously he worked for 18 years in various management positions for State Bank of India. He holds a master in business administration, master's degree in commerce, and a bachelor of science. He also holds a banking diploma from the Indian Institute of Bankers.
