HIGHLIGHTS

Multinational Infrastructure Development

(Organized in cooperation with the Global Infrastructure Fund [GIF] Research Foundation Japan, and Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkey [DEIK])

3 May 2005 (12:00 noon - 2:00 p.m.)

Globalization and increasing regional economic integration require multinational planning, realization, and maintenance of infrastructure. Well-developed transport and communication infrastructure is a must for the exchange of goods, people, capital, as well as ideas and knowledge. To promote productivity and effective use of economic forces, countries must share their assets and resources. In the past decade, efforts such as the Greater Mekong Subregion Economic Cooperation Program, which was a comprehensive initiative launched by ADB with governments' participation, were examples of new approaches.

The seminar will address the following:

  • Why are more internationally built and operated cross-border infrastructure systems needed?
  • How do global infrastructure systems integrate the international community?
  • How can we persuade countries to cooperate more closely to provide infrastructure?
  • What are the driving forces of and challenges to the New Silk Road and Euro-Asia Continental Bridge?
