Transport Advisory for Guests, Media and NGOs



Airport to Hotels in Madrid: Guests, Media and NGOs are advised to wear their lapel stickers to be easily identified as participants.

  • ADB information desks will be set up in Terminal 1, 2 and 4 (T1, T2, and T4) for the Madrid-Barajas Airport and will be in service at the Arrivals Hall from 30 April to 5 May. They will provide information on the Annual Meeting and Madrid Tourism, and assist participants to reach Madrid.
  • Upon departure, ADB Information Desks will be available at the Departure Hall of T1, T2 and T4 on 6 and 7 May.
  • Madrid-Barajas Airport is twelve kilometres to the northeast of the city of Madrid. Participants may reach Madrid by bus, taxi, or metro.
  • Madrid city centre is accessible from the airport by public transportation:

    Bus: T1, T2 and T4 are served by

  • Number 200 (from T1, T2 to Avenida de America Bus Station, every 15 minutes)
  • Bus route number 204 (from T4 to Avenida de America Bus Station every 15 minutes)
  • From Avenida de America Bus Station you can also take the subway (lines 4,6,7 and 9).

    Metro: Take the underground line 8 (Nuevos Ministerios-Airport), which departs every 7 minutes from T1,T2, T3, and T4.

    Taxi: At each terminal, there is a taxi stand in the arrivals area. It is recommended that you take taxis from the taxi stands rather than from taxi drivers offering their services inside the terminals. The average fare from the airport to the center of Madrid is approximately 25€. It is recommended that payment be made using small banknotes (5, 10, 20 €), as taxi drivers may not have change for notes of 50€ and above.

Arriving by Land: Madrid is also accessible by land (train or bus) from all corners of Spain. Further information can be found at: http://www.renfe.es/ave/index.html and http://horarios.renfe.es/hir/ingles.html

Car rental: Requests to hire chauffer-driven cars should be sent as soon as possible directly to Viajes Iberia Congresos (below) for confirmation and costing. Confirmation will be on a first-come first-served basis.

Within Madrid: A transport voucher will be available inside the Registration Envelope and must be exchanged at the Transport Ticket Desk for a Tourist Transport Ticket. This may be used on the bus and metro to reach IFEMA and to go around Madrid and will be valid for 5 days.

Reaching IFEMA: IFEMA is located 10 kilometers northeast of Madrid's city limits, and is accessible both by bus and metro.

    By bus: Numbers 112, 122, and 828
    By metro: Take line 8, and get off at Campo de las Naciones Station.

Buses will be provided for all participants from IFEMA for the following official social events and for the return journey, the buses will stop at official hotels (Sofitel, Novotel, Meliá Castilla, AC Cuzco; Intercontinental, Occidental Miguel Angel, and Gran Meliá Fénix) from where participants may take a taxi or metro to their hotels:

Metro: The metro is open from 6:00 a.m. until 1:45 am and provides good service at affordable rates. A map of the Madrid metro system can be found at http://www.metromadrid.es/acc_resources/pdfs/Plano_Metro_2007.pdf

Tickets can be purchased at all MetroMadrid stations and also at the Neoturismo Desk located at the NCC lobby in IFEMA.

Travel Desk: During the Annual Meeting, a travel and tours desk will be set up at IFEMA offering the following services:

  • Reconfirmation of return flights
  • Information on and bookings for post-conference tours and Madrid sightseeing tours
  • Sightseeing taxi and car hire arrangements
  • Other travel-related requests
  • Accompanying Persons Program: Reservations for the accompanying persons program (APP) and changes in APP reservations, etc., will be handled by the APP desk.
