Asia Pacific Carbon Fund

The Asia Pacific Carbon Fund (APCF) [PDF: 866kb | 62 pages] is a trust fund established and managed by ADB on behalf of fund participants.

The APCF provides upfront cofinancing to CDM projects in ADB's DMCs for future delivery of certified emission reductions.

The APCF aims to:

1. increase the number of clean energy and energy efficiency projects in DMCs
2. assist APCF participants in satisfying their legally binding emission reduction commitments under the Kyoto Protocol
3. capitalize increased investments from developed countries to improve energy access in the Asia and Pacific region

It became operational on 01 May 2007 and has received a total commitment of $151.8 million from participants comprising of Belgium, on behalf of the Flemish Region, Finland, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. The Organizational Meeting of Participants was held on 30 May 2007 at ADB's European Representative Office (ERO) in Frankfurt, Germany. The acceptance of participation to the Fund was closed on 30 June 2007.
