Improving Competitiveness in Tourism (PICTourism)
This technical assistance (TA) amounting to $7.1 million was granted to the Department of Tourism of the Philippines to further enrich the competitiveness of the tourism industry and provide local opportunities for employment. The TA is administered by ADB and financed by the Government of Canada. PICTourism is being implemented in four pilot areas, namely: Bohol, Cebu, Davao, and Palawan.
Typhoon Yolanda Assistance Package
ADB's response to assist the Philippines, its home country, in the aftermath of Typhoon Yolanda, known internationally as Typhoon Haiyan, has been swift and unprecedented. Days after the tragedy, a $3 million emergency grant was released to the Government of the Philippines for its purchase of immediate relief goods and emergency supplies. In addition, a $500 million emergency assistance loan was approved in record time to help the government meet its budgetary requirements in the wake of the calamity. From ADB's Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction, a $20 million grant was also approved to help restore the livelihood of affected residents.
Conditional Cash Transfer Program
ADB supports the Philippine government’s conditional cash transfer program, which provides a monthly allowance to very poor families who commit to send their children to school and bring them to clinics for preventive health care.
Technical Assistance: Harmonization and Development Effectiveness
The Government of the Philippines has sought advisory technical assistance (TA) from ADB in continuing support of the country's implementation of the Paris Declaration for Development Effectiveness and the Accra Agenda for Action, international commitments to accelerate progress toward development effectiveness. The TA is included in the country operations business plan for 2007-2008 and is the second in a series of TAs to support development effectiveness in the Philippines.
