Since joining ADB in 1995, Uzbekistan has been receiving ADB support to pursue environmentally sustainable rural development, grow its private sector, expand its regional transport and transit routes, and invest in human capital.
ADB-supported projects, which span from providing education and health services to securing access to water, have achieved remarkable results. These include enabling farmers to produce improved grains, providing clean water and maternal care in rural and urban communities, and giving schoolchildren modern textbooks and better education through information technologies. Other accomplishments include reforming the country's banking system, invigorating private sector development and restoring and expanding Uzbekistan's communication corridors.
This country brief summarizes how the partnership between the Government of Uzbekistan and ADB has contributed to the development of the country.

The table includes operations completed during the period, and funded by ADB's ordinary capital resources, special fund resources, which include the Asian Development Fund and other special funds, cofinanciers, and the government. The results presented are limited to ADB's core sectors, as defined under Strategy 2020 and tracked through indicators in the ADB Results Framework. ADB monitors results achievement in the annual Development Effectiveness Review. The numbers represent the sum of outputs and beneficiaries of individual projects. Therefore, the beneficiary numbers reported under education—teachers trained, and students benefitting from school improvement programs or direct support—include those who benefited from more than one project.
