ADB Environmental Assessment Guidelines
Environmental Categorization and Rapid Environmental Assessment ChecklistsEnvironmental CategorizationAll ADB projects are assigned one of four categories (A, B, C, or FI) for environmental assessment. The category is assigned based on the project's potential for environmental impact. The category is used to determine the environmental assessment requirements for the project, and staff and budget resources required to do the EA. Categorization is undertaken by completing and submitting the environmental categorization form to Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) in Regional and Sustainable Development Department. The process of determining the environment category is facilitated by preparation of rapid environmental assessment (REA) checklists.
Rapid Environmental Assessment (REA) ChecklistsREA checklists are prepared to support the environmental categorization of a project. It is to be attached to the environmental categorization form that is to be prepared and submitted to the CCO of the Regional and Sustainable Development Department. The checklist is to be completed with the assistance of an Environment Specialist in a Regional Department. The checklists focus on environmental issues and concerns.
