Objectives
This workshop will enable the participants to
- generate a better understanding of critical issues in providing water services to the urban poor
- identify lessons learned and good practices in formulating strategies and projects, including the complementary roles of the various stakeholders
- identify policy and practice challenges that pose barriers to serving the urban poor, and outline actions to address these
- define areas for follow-up studies, actions, and partnerships that involve the interested stakeholders concerned
Expected Outputs
- Insights on strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and challenges of private sector participation, particularly in the fields of governance, community participation and sustainable development
- Recommended key principles for private sector participation
- Priority actions for improving the provision of water services to urban poor, particularly through the participation of the private sector
Date and Venue
The dialogue shall be held at the Magellan Function Room of the Discovery Suites on 29-31 May 2002.
Target Participants
Participation is by invitation only
- Stakeholders from partner institutions such as Global Water Partnership, Water Supply & Sanitation Collaborative Council, Netherlands International Development Agency, etc
- Stakeholders from international and local NGOs, e.g. WaterAid, Aprotech Asia, NGO Forum, etc
- Stakeholders from the private sector, e.g. academe, water service providers such as PALYJA, Manila Water Company, Maynilad Water Services, Ondeo Services, etc)
- Stakeholders from the government (e.g. regulators, ministry representatives, etc)
