Trade Policy Issues Workshop
25 February - 1 March 2002, Singapore
In cooperation with the Technical Cooperation Directorate, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Singapore, and the ADB Institute.
- The Workshop will provide participants with a forum to exchange views and reflect on their own country specific issues, including those related to WTO entry, implementations of the WTO obligations, and participation in the new round of trade negotiations.
- It will help participants deepen their conceptual understanding of the evolving trade policy issues, and sharpen their skills in trade policy analysis and negotiations.
- It will enable the participants to improve their effectiveness in assisting their countries promote international trade liberalization under multilateral and regional initiatives.
The Workshop will discuss issues related to these areas:
- free trade and economic cooperation
- Singapore experience in trade policy reforms
- post-Doha WTO related issues
- technical standards, intellectual property rights and rules of origin in international trade
Powerpoint presentations and papers will be prepared on these topics.
Additionally, participants will prepare short issues papers to be circulated at the Workshop.
Group discussions will be organized on the last day of the Workshop as a device to help absorb resource speakers' presentations, and encourage discussions and sharing of country experience among participants.
The Workshop will be attended by up to 30 middle- to senior-level officials from Bangladesh, Cambodia, the People’s Republic of China, India, Indonesia, Lao, PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Viet Nam.
