High-Level Meeting on the WTO Trading System
Bangkok, Thailand, 31 July-2 August 2002

Objectives

The meeting will provide a capacity building opportunity to actual trade negotiators on a wide range of WTO issues such as

• the key agenda in the Doha Development Round
• experience in multilateral trade negotiations in implementing WTO agreements and in WTO membership
• dispute settlement mechanisms
• trade policies of the European Union, Japan, and the United States and the new round of negotiations

Target Participants

The meeting will be attended by high level officials from 32 DMCs.

Participants are expected to be actual trade negotiators at the WTO new round from the Ministries of Trade, Commerce and Industry of DMCs.

Resource Speakers

Resource persons will come from ADB, APEC, WTO, academics, and practitioners.
