LGED's district and sub-district offices, together with participating water management cooperative associations (WMCAs)

Scope

The Project will target 100 well-performing WMCAs developed under the SSWRDSP, covering a total population of about 170,000 households or about 1 million people.

The Project will be completed by June 2005.

Objectives

Overall Objective

To reduce rural poverty through enhanced production/employment opportunities for the poor, and improved self-governance of WMCAs.

Project Purpose

To increase production/employment opportunities for the poor in 100 selected subproject areas where WMCAs are operating effectively.

Expected Output

Livelihood improvement programs conducted in 100 selected subproject areas; and Institutional capacity of 100 WMCAs strengthened for the livelihood improvement programs.

Main Project Components and Activities

The Project has two components:

  • livelihood improvement activities by the poor
  • developing the capacity of WMCAs
