Key Management Visits in March ADB Review [ April 2008 ]
MANILA—ADB President Haruhiko Kuroda and Vice Presidents Liqun Jin and Ursula Schäfer-Preuss conducted outreach missions and addressed conferences away from headquarters in March.
President Kuroda delivered a keynote speech on the challenges of Asian financial and macroeconomic integration at a conference in Brussels jointly organized by ADB and the European
Commission. In Beijing, the President noted the People's Republic of China's progress and challenges, ranging from the environment and urbanization to gaps in social services, poverty, and
inequality, in a speech delivered at the China Development Forum. He also met with the Minister
of Environmental Protection, the Vice Minister of Housing and Urban-Rural Construction, and the
Governor of the People's Bank of China.
Vice President Jin conducted a 5-day outreach mission to Madrid, where he spoke at Casa Asia on infrastructure development and private sector opportunities in Asia. During his visit, he addressed the Spanish Confederation of Employees and held discussions with officials from the ministries of Finance and Economy, and Trade and Industry. The Vice President also joined a symposium in Tokyo organized by the Japanese Ministry of Finance in cooperation with developing partners as part of Japan’s forerunner to the G8 Summit in July, in which he called for the private sector to actively participate in addressing climate change.
At the 4th Ministerial Meeting of the Gleneagles Dialogue on Climate Change, Clean Energy, and Sustainable Development in Chiba, Japan, Vice President Schäfer-Preuss stressed the dire consequences of climate change, particularly for the poor, and the importance of financing
partnerships to advance concrete mitigation and adaptation action in Asia and the Pacific.
