National Center for HIV/AIDS, Dermatology, and Sexually Transmitted Diseases in CAM; National Committee on Control of AIDS in LAO; and Aids Division of the Ministry of Health in VIE

Scope

The Project will target high-risk groups including migrants and mobile groups such as fishing communities, transport, sex and hospitality workers, police and military personnel and construction workers who are vulnerable to HIV infection due to their work, living environment and lack of social support.

The Project will primarily support community-based HIV/AIDS prevention activities in the following provinces:

• Cambodia:Battambang, Kho Kong, Prey Veng, Svay Rieng
• Lao-PDR: Khamoune, Oudomxay, Savannakhet
• Vietnam: An Giang, Dong Thap, Kien Giang, Lai Cau, and Quang Tri

The Project will be completed in June 2003.

Objectives

To reduce the incidence of HIV/AIDS in CAM, LAO and VIE

Support HIV/AIDS prevention in strategically important areas (hot spots) for the transmission of HIV in the region; Strengthen capacities of the national and local HIV authorities and selected NGOs for the development of community based prevention and care programs

HIV/AIDS prevention activities in hot spots; Capacity Building

Main Project Components and Activities

The Project will have three components:

• community-based HIV prevention activities
• capacity building
• project management and evaluation and monitoring
