Prevention of Sexual Harassment

International Women's Day Conference

Many nations have laws on sexual harassment at the workplace. Understanding the damage that can be caused to individuals and the organizations, most of the world's leading organizations have adopted policies on sexual harassment and pursue this as an aspect of international best practice.

ADB has a policy which states very clearly that ADB will not tolerate any conduct that reasonably could be viewed as sexual harassment. The complaints are to be taken seriously and handled promptly and impartially, action is to be taken to ensure any harassment stops immediately, and persons making complaints and those as witnesses do not suffer any retaliation.

The policy encourages senior staff, supervisors, and mission leaders to establish a climate of mutual respect among their staff members. Any problems are to be resolved confidentially and urgently.

ADB has trained helpers and counselors at the headquarters to assist in resolving issues confidentially.

There is a complete guide on "Prevention of Sexual Harassment - A Guide for Staff" which is made available on joining.
