Strategic Framework and the Core Agriculture Support Program
Globalization is changing the face of the GMS agriculture sector. The focus is shifting from agriculture’s traditional role in food security toward high-value products and nontraditional crops for export. The use of crops and by-products as alternative energy sources is also becoming prominent. At the same time, there are increasing threats to GMS agriculture due to overexploitation and depletion of natural resources, deforestation, soil erosion, and pollution. Other problems include the spread of transboundary animal diseases, barriers to accessing international markets, and the impact of climate change.
