1. What is ADB?

ADB is a multilateral development finance institution dedicated to reducing poverty in Asia and the Pacific. Established in 1966, we are now owned by 67 members, mostly from the region.

Our headquarters is in Manila and we have 27 other offices around the world.

2. What are ADB guidelines for procurement of goods and civil works?

4. How can I apply for a scholarship?

ADB provides scholarships, for 1-3 years, for citizens of developing member countries through the Japan Scholarship Program. It covers full tuition fees, allowances, medical insurance, and travel expenses. The Asian Development Bank (ADB)-Japan Scholarship Program (JSP) was established in April 1988 with financing from the Government of Japan.

It aims to provide an opportunity for well-qualified citizens of ADB's developing member countries to pursue postgraduate studies in economics, management, science and technology, and other development-related fields at participating academic institutions in the Asian and Pacific Region.

5. How can nongovernment organizations (NGOs) receive ADB support?

As a rule, ADB works through the governments of its developing member countries in supporting NGOs. ADB recognizes the growing importance of NGOs' role in development and promotes ADB-NGO cooperation in strengthening civil society's participation in the development process.

In February 2001, ADB established the NGO and Civil Society Center at its headquarters in Manila, Philippines. The center seeks to find new ways of working with NGOs and aims to integrate better the experience and knowledge of working with NGOs in ADB operations.

6. How do I get ADB funding for private and personal purposes?

ADB is a development bank that lends to governments for development projects. However, ADB also provides direct assistance to private enterprises of developing member countries through equity investments and loans.
