ADB Taking Part in 2006 Global Monitoring Report Preparation
The objective of GMRs is to regularly assess progress and to reinforce accountabilities among developing and developed countries, as well as institutional partners, for the policies and actions for achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and related outcomes. GMRs are seen as providing an important complement to the monitoring of MDGs by the United Nations (U.N.). GMRs are prepared jointly by the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF), with inputs from other multilateral development banks including ADB, United Nations, World Trade Organization, Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and the European Commission. The reports include a chapter on International Financial Institutions, which is written jointly by the MDBs.
GMR 2006 will be the third in an annual series since 2004. The special theme for the GMR 2006 is governance and scaling up of assistance.
ADB held video consultations with counterparts in other MDBs - the World Bank, African Development Bank, Inter-American Development Bank and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development on 14 October 2005 to initiate preparation for GMR 2006. More intensive discussions will be held in the coming months in preparation for the launch of 2006 GMR in the first quarter of next year.
