Phosphate exports drive modest growth

The economy expanded by an estimated 1.0% in FY2008, driven by exports of phosphate. Both export volumes and prices of phosphate rose, as illustrated by a large increase in the value of Australia's imports from Nauru, which are almost entirely phosphate. Growth was dampened by the closure of an Australian refugee processing center, which had been an important source of employment. Read the full report.
