NAY PYI TAW, MYANMAR - Asian Development Bank (ADB) President Haruhiko Kuroda will tomorrow meet Myanmar President U Thein Sein in Nay Pyi Taw, and on Friday speak at a conference in Yangon, as one of ADB’s first initiatives since resuming full operations.

This is the first official visit by a head of a Multilateral Development Bank since arrears were cleared by Myanmar last month.

ADB announced a $512 million policy-based loan for Myanmar last month. ADB's medium-term goal for assistance to Myanmar, in line with an Interim Country Partnership Strategy in 2012, is to support the government in creating jobs and achieving sustainable and inclusive economic growth.

ADB will focus on continued analytical work and capacity building in the areas of public sector and macro-economic management, education, trade and private sector development, rural development, transport and energy infrastructure, and identifying and preparing highest priority investment projects in close collaboration with the government and other development partners.

An Extended Mission office in Myanmar was opened by ADB in August 2012.
