Bhutan – SASEC Road Connectivity Project

News Brief | 1 August 2014

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved loan and grant funding for the South Asia Subregional Economic Cooperation Road Connectivity Project (Bhutan):

The assistance will help fund new roads, a land 'port' and a customs station in southern areas of the country near the Indian border. The project will improve the flow of people and goods and open up new economic opportunities for poor, isolated communities. It will also facilitate cross-border trade between land-locked Bhutan and its neighbors and deliver broad benefits to the wider South Asia region.

$31.39 million loan and $18.96 million grant, both from ADB's concessional Asian Development Fund.
