This project will help herders adopt more sustainable practices, and help build resilience to climate-related shocks by diversifying their income. Sustainable herding includes collective pasture management; at least 30 water points constructed or rehabilitated, including the test use of a solar-powered deep engineering well; hay and fodder preparation; and enhanced winter livestock shelters. By assisting herders with branching into “value added” products such as milk, felt, crop production, baked goods or handicrafts, it will reduce the pressure on Mongolia’s pastureland, which is already beyond carrying capacity.
