Pacific Region: Technical Assistance for Quality Primary Education

29 March 2012 - The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved the following technical assistance:

Description:

While Pacific developing member countries have made significant progress in universal primary education, learning outcomes still lag behind improvements in access to schooling. This technical assistance will help the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), the Marshall Islands and Palau establish an early grade learning assessment (EGLA) to determine how well children are acquiring reading and math skills, to be piloted for grades two and five at three primary schools in each country. The technical assistance will also help countries develop individualized learning approaches; integrate the assessment into the education information management system; and prepare publication of the results to be shared regionally.

Amount: $1,350,000 to be financed on a grant basis from the Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction, and administered by ADB.
