South Asia – Smart Grid Technical Assistance
7 December 2011 -
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved the following technical assistance:
Description:
Promoting the use of clean energy is one of ADB’s highest priorities. This technical assistance will explore the potential for Smart Grid development in several South Asia Developing Member Countries. Smart Grids decentralize the power system, allowing homes and businesses to generate wind and solar energy; surplus energy can then be sold back to their utilities. Network upgrades are required, however, to manage power flow, increase energy efficiency and provide two-way metering. This TA will identify key actions required to accelerate Smart Grid development.
Amount: $1.4 million equivalent grant by the Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction, administered by ADB.
