Sri Lanka: Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises Finance Project

News Brief | 11 February 2013

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved the following private sector, senior unsecured loan for Nations Trust Bank (NTB):

This private sector project aims to provide better financing access for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the backbone of the Sri Lankan economy. NTB is a medium-sized private commercial bank that has a strong SME platform. The $15 million, five-year ADB loan to NTB will be used for lending to SME borrowers in the northern and eastern post-conflict provinces of the country and in the southern provinces affected by the 2004 tsunami. To promote inclusive financial development, the project will include geographic targets for NTB lending in post-conflict areas, as well as gender lending targets to support women involved in SMEs.
