Tajikistan – Improved Maternal and Child Health Grant
7 March 2013 -
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved the following grant project:
Description:
The project will repair a flood-damaged bridge and access road to the Rasht district center, giving some of Tajikistan’s poorest and most isolated rural communities faster and easier access to essential social services. It will also train local health workers, carry out public awareness campaigns on nutrition and hygiene, and establish a referral and emergency transportation system to help cut high levels of infant and maternal mortality and child malnutrition.
Amount: $2.5 million equivalent grant from the Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction, administered by ADB. The Government of Tajikistan will provide $386,000, with the communities making in-kind contributions of $47,000.
