Thailand – Ayudhaya Natural Gas Power Project Loan
25 October 2012 -
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved the following project loan:
Description:
The loan will help finance a second 1,600 megawatt combined cycle natural gas-fired power plant in Ayudhaya province, north of Bangkok, which will be owned and operated by Gulf JP, a unit of Japan’s largest wholesale electricity provider, J-Power. The project will complete the implementation of the 3,200 megawatt capacity secured by Gulf JP in the 2007 independent power producer contract bidding. This will improve the reliability of Thailand’s power supply, increase confidence in the use of public-private partnership in the power sector, and provide cleaner air and lower carbon footprint as compared with coal-fired power plants.
Amount: $184 million nonsovereign loan from ADB’s ordinary capital resources. Cofinancing loans of from Japan Bank for International Cooperation and from commercial banks.
