1st Stakeholder Workshop of Vu Gia-Thu Bon River Basin

Purpose

ADB's Managing Water in Asia's River Basins: Charting Progress and Facilitating Investment project aims to support river basin organizations (RBOs) in preparing roadmaps for long-term integrated river basin investment programs. It targets five selected river basins where ADB and other funding agencies will invest in river basin management for integrated water resources management (IWRM). The project also expected to help RBOs improve their performance and adapt to changes in water management, showcase good practices in IWRM in the Asia-Pacific region, and for the first time present a credible overview of the river basin management achievements of the region to the global water community.

The Vu Gia-Thu Bon River Basin in Viet Nam is among those targeted by the project. The basin faces a host of water resources concerns, including major hydropower expansion plans. This first workshop will gather stakeholders to begin discussions on creating an IWRM investment roadmap for the Vu Gia-Thu Bon River Basin.

The workshop aims to

  • Gather stakeholder comments on the draft investment roadmap for IWRM-based developments in the Vu Gia-Thu Bon basin
  • Update the Vu Gia-Thu Bon river basin's draft profile

Organizers

The workshop is being organized by Quang Nam Province's Department of Natural Resources and Environment, with support from ADB.

Participants

High-level officials from various ministries, provincial and district officials, and representatives from ADB and other river basin organizations will participate.
