3rd Regional Consultation (RC) on the Economics of Climate Change and Low Carbon Growth Strategies in Northeast Asia
Background
This 3nd RC will report on the interim findings and future work of the TA. The findings include consolidation and analysis of the economic and climate impact and policies at the country and regional levels. This regional consultation aims to interact and exchange information with government officials, regional and national experts, and other stakeholders on the issue of climate change in Northeast Asia. It is also intended to facilitate discussions on the economic costs and benefits of the unilateral and regional actions on climate change mitigation and adaptation.
Objectives
The 3rd RC aims to present and discuss the following topics:
- Country case studies on (i) impact of and vulnerability to climate change, (ii) climate change adaptation practices, (iii) climate change mitigation practices, (iv) climate change policies, and (v) recommendations for further advancements to tackle the climate change challenges in the respective country. Presentations will cover Japan, Republic of Korea (ROK), Mongolia, and preliminary findings of the country case study for PRC.
- Marginal abatement cost (MAC) curves on Japan and ROK and methodologies for PRC and Mongolian MAC curves.
- Regional integrated assessment model on climate change. First results of the Page09 model.
- Regional work on the economics of climate change adaptation
- Concept of the climate policy simulation tool (CPST)
- Outline of the final report and dissemination
