ASEAN Training Workshop on Legal and Economic Framework for Merger Analysis
Given regional efforts and plans to integrate ASEAN further and to create an ASEAN Economic Community, Asian enterprises are expecting to expand their operations within the region as trade and investment are further liberalized, including through mergers and acquisitions (M&A). The number of M&As in the region is increasing.
At present, ASEAN Member States are divided into two main categories: (1) states with a competition law in place (Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam) and (2) those who are developing a competition law (Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Lao People's Democratic Republic, the Philippines, and Myanmar). Most ASEAN Member States have limited experience in competition law and policy, particularly for handling M&A cases.
This workshop aims to provide better understanding on key aspects of dealing with M&As and cooperating on cross-border issues.
