Capturing Economic Benefits from Ecosystem Services: Experience from Asia and the Pacific

Purpose / Background

Market creation approaches are increasingly being used to sustain the provision of ecosystem services and the financing needed for the sustainable management of natural systems. Through ADB's regional Technical Assistance project -- Capturing Economic Benefits from Ecosystem Services (CEBES), seven developing member countries (Cambodia, Lao PDR, Nepal, Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Thailand, and Vietnam) are contributing to the growing knowledge base on the payment for ecosystem services approach and reduced emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD+) scheme.

Objectives

To contribute to knowledge exchange on innovative approaches to managing land use and forests for climate change, biodiversity, and other local benefits.

To provide a venue for further dialogue within the context of the GMS 2020 Conference.

Expected Outputs

Results from this meeting will feed into the wrap up of the project, including finalization of a regional synthesis report and set of country case studies.

Representatives from Ministries of Finance, Forests, Environment and/or Natural Resources; civil society organizations; international development institutions. Around 50 participants are expected to join.
