Country Safeguard Systems Regional Workshop: Towards Common Approaches and Better Results

Purpose / Background

The purpose of the workshop is to share experiences and build partnerships on efforts in Asia and Pacific on country safeguard systems. The workshop will share experiences, review recent progress and current challenges, and examine opportunities. It will discuss approaches and methodologies to increase harmonization amongst donors and foster alignment of donors with partner countries' priorities for CSS strengthening. The workshop will also explore existing and new partnerships for technical and financial support to the strengthening and use of CSS.

Target participants

Participants will represent key partners from DMCs, IFIs, private sector, and CSOs. In addition to government representatives from the TA 7566 subprojects, participants will be drawn from countries that have made new advancements in their country systems, including India and the PRC. Multilateral participants include both the World Bank and International Finance Corporation. Bilateral agencies will share their experience on their long term commitment to strengthening safeguard systems. Stephen Lintner and Peter Leonard from World Bank will actively participate. High level officials from India, PRC, and Vietnam will speak on recent progress in their countries. AusAID, JICA, and Finland have been invited to present on their current approach and past experiences. WWF has agreed to present while NGO Forum has agreed to attend.
