ADBI's Distinguished Speaker Seminar Series brings eminent persons together to encourage debate among policymakers, researchers, academics, and others interested in economic development challenges.

Professor Edward Chen, GBS, CBE, HonDLitt, HonDSocSc, JP, former President of Lingnan University (1995–2007), received his education at the University of Hong Kong (BA, M.Soc.Sc.) and Oxford University (D.Phil.). He is a Distinguished Fellow, Hong Kong Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Hong Kong, at which he was the director from 1979 to 1995. He is also an Honorary Professor of the Open University of Hong Kong, and Chairman of the Council of Advisers of the Hong Kong Institute for Monetary Research of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority. He has also held visiting appointments at Yale, Oxford, and the University of California (Davis Campus).

Professor Chen's research interests include Asian economic development, foreign investment, and technological change.
